You will see links to HB 275 and HB 14 . . . the two bills that were passed regarding advanced practice. These bills tell you what was done and what is needed to become an AP DC. There is also a letter from Dr. George Simmons that gives a description of what occurred.

The training we have provided consists of three weekend seminars (36 hours total) of injectable medicine with Dr. Michael Taylor, six weekend seminars (75 hours) of training on pharmacology, etc., through NUHS taught by Dr. Daniel Richardson and a credentialing test through ACPCC (application for which is also on our legislative news page on the web site for your information). After the end of 2012, a masters degree will be required for anyone new that wants to participate in the AP registry . . . the registry that will maintain the monitoring of those doctors (DCs) licensed in AP and handled by the same Board of Examiners in NM that handles the regular re-licensing every year. The one other requirement for NM is that a doctor has been out of chiropractic college and practicing three years before he can become an advanced practice physician.

Dr. Taylor has been doing this kind of work in Oklahoma for about 20 years. He is well-known and highly respected in this arena, as well as being an outstanding DC. Dr. Richardson is on the faculty of National University of Health Sciences and is also highly respected and knowledgeable in this area of study.

We have completed the second round of NUHS courses, are doing a third now, and plan a fourth beginning in September of 2011. Dr. Taylor has offered to do his three modules again here in NM beginning in June of 2011 and the ACPCC test is something that is on-going and available at any time. The NUHS courses were designed for NM and, so far, have not been held anywhere else but that is also a possibility in the future.

The cost per seminar is $350 for NMCA members and $400 for non-members. Membership for an out of state doctor is $150 a year so represents a savings of $300 for the 9 weekends. Application under member info on our web site.
