2007 NMCA ANNUAL CONVENTION
~~ Coming Up Next!!

The 2007 Annual Convention to be held from April 20-22 at the Sandia Resort & Casino in Albuquerque is shaping us very nicely!! We have sold 35 of the 36 available exhibitor spots and have several vendors interested in the last spot! You will be able to visit with some wonderful companies (click here to see a list of our exhibitors) that offer great products and services to the chiropractic profession!! You will NOT want to miss this opportunity to experience what is being offered first hand!! Visit with them, enjoy them and remember to thank them for their presence and their support of our Annual Convention!! It would not be nearly as GREAT an event without them!!!

We are really excited about our speakers for this year and KNOW you will find what they have to offer of great value and use in your on-going practice of chiropractic. DR. NANCY NORTH will be speaking on Upper Extremity Adjusting, DR. LOUIS SPORTELLLI will be speaking on Risk Management, and DR. JAMES A. MERTZ will be speaking on the Basic Principles of Musculoskeletal MRI. (Click here to see a write-up of the speakers and a schedule of events for the weekend.) You will not want to miss any of this exciting line-up and the valuable information that they will be providing for your benefit. (Click here for a registration form.)

Let’s not forget the CAs’ Seminar, Chiropractically Awesome, that is being presented by Dr. WINDY CARTER. She has some wonderful and exciting experiences and information planned for your CAs!! So . . . bring them to the Convention ~~ you will be glad you did and they will love being there!!

On Friday afternoon from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., North Star Resource Group will be presenting Protecting Your Assets With Solid Financial Strategies for anyone that would like to gain some great information and talk to some experts in this field! This is NOT a CEU event but we hope that those that do not need the CEUs will visit with Joshua Hoisington and Damon Lichtenberger and gain some great insight and information. (Click here to read several articles of interest by Mr. Hoisington.)

All the breaks this year will be in the back of the Exhibitors’ Room, as will the cocktail party on Friday night!! So, get your treats and drinks and visit with everyone you can!!

Don’t forget the NMCA luncheon on Saturday at 12 Noon! There will be some great food, good information, and, hopefully, some fun, too!! The General Assembly will be held immediately following the lunch festivities. There are several proposed Bylaws changes (click here to view changes) that will need your vote. We hope you will participate and have your voice heard within the NMCA. We really need you and want your input!! WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING YOU IN APRIL!!

2007 LEGISLATIVE SESSION ~~ Gone But NOT Forgotten!

New Mexico Chiropractic PAC Members
From left to right: Dr. Bob Dubin, Dr. Rob Jones, Jaeni Aarden,
Dr. Steve Perlstein, Dr. Bill Doggett, Dr. George Simmons,
Dr. Ben Markham.

The last several months have been jam-packed with hard work, excitement, many lessons, a great deal of happiness and, finally, some heartbreak when it comes to our 2007 Legislative Session experience.

A great deal of work went into the preparation for the Advanced Practice Chiropractic Licensure Legislation (HB 424). The NMCA PAC Committee guided by Dr. Steve Perlstein (click here for a report from Dr. Perlstein) and our Lobbyist, Linda Siegle, (click here for a report from Ms. Siegle) worked unfailingly toward its passage. Everything that could possibly be done was done . . . in spades!! The Bill went smoothly through the House and through the Senate to the Senate Floor where it was blocked in the final hours. We were not alone in our situation. Even the Governor found himself in the same position. It was, however, a sad day for us!!

HB 638, relating to the Gross Receipts deduction on Medicare, did make it through the entire Session and is now in the hands of the Governor to sign. We hope he will do that and bring some relief to the chiropractic community.

A great deal of THANKS goes out to all of our members that called and e-mailed in huge numbers every time they were asked! That made a BIG difference and we showed that we could be a strong and vocal force in New Mexico.

Particular THANKS go to the Doctors of Chiropractic that took time out of their busy schedules to treat the Senators, Representatives and staff members at the Roundhouse for two months. This service is one that has been going on for many, many years and not only gives exposure of the great benefits of chiropractic to our elected officials, but also gives our doctors a chance to talk directly to those officials about the legislation that we submit. And, I gather that it is a lot of fun for the DCs that participate! So, please know that you have been deeply appreciated for your work on behalf of the NMCA and the Doctors of Chiropractic in New Mexico!!!

Without the support of those that have made such generous PAC donations throughout the year, nothing would have been possible. Through your financial support, we were able to hire a Lobbyist, without whom we would have been LOST!! So, THANK YOU for contributing and I hope you will continue to help us get this legislation passed in the 2008 Legislative Session ~~ hoping that we can get on the Governor’s Call ~~ or in 2009.

We feel strongly that the Advanced Practice Chiropractic Licensure legislation will get passed in the next few years and we hope you will continue to support the efforts of the NMCA and the NMCA PAC toward that end. We will also continue to move forward on legislation regarding Medicaid payments to chiropractors and the inclusion of Animal Chiropractic in our statutes.

Stay tuned!! We have only just begun . . .

THE NMCA STARTS BROADCASTING

Dr. Bob Dubin on KTBL 1050 AM in YOYR HEALTH MATTERS by the New Mexico Chiropractic Association. every Saturday from 2-3:PM during the year 2007.The NMCA has recently signed a contract with KTBL 1050 AM for a year of live radio. Dr. Bob Dubin, who has many years of experience in radio, will host the program from 2 to 3 p.m. every Saturday. Each week there will be a co-host selected from one of NMCA’s members and a guest covering a wide range of topics on healthcare. The program is called Your Health Matters and we hope those of you that can listen will join in the fun, call in and make comments, and let us know what you think. All of the programs will be recorded and, eventually, made available for doctors’ offices and, possibly, for syndication around the state.

A Program Announcement has been prepared by Heather Dubin (Dr. Dubin’s daughter) that you can print and hang in your office to let your patients know to listen every Saturday.(Click here to read about some of the up-coming programs and to download a copy of the flyer.)

We are excited about this new adventure and hope it will be another positive step forward for Doctors of Chiropractic in New Mexico! Contact Dr. Dubin, 505-771-9833, if you are interested in being a co-host and/or if you have suggestions on topics or guests.

NEWS FROM ASSOCIATION HEADQUARTERS

The NMCA has endorsed TreatmentFirst.com. This product is one that can help you retain business in the form of personal injury referrals. It is the first directory of its kind, listing and mapping all health care providers who accept personal injury work. It is a mapping system that allows attorneys to find providers for their clients, as well as a reporting system that helps them keep track of their new client intake. This program requires no contract and no commitment . . . just your willingness to give it a try for as long as it works for you . . . and we hope it will work very well for all those that participate! (Click here for contact avenues and information.)

There will be another NMCA Fall Seminar over the weekend of October 20-21, 2007. 12 CEUs will be offered and it will be held at the Marriott Pyramid in Albuquerque. Several speakers are being considered and we will let you know as soon as we have a solid agenda. Hold the dates and join us in October for some additional great education!!

Don’t forget to use our on-line marketplace . . . Fundraising Solutions (click here to go shopping). In the near future, we will be expanding our on-line shopping portal to include many new and exciting shopping opportunities. Keep watching and remember that anytime you shop through our website, the NMCA gains non-dues revenue and it costs you no more than you would be paying by shopping elsewhere . . . sometimes even less!!

DON’T FORGET TO VISIT OUR WEBSITE FREQUENTLY AT WWW.NMCHIRO.ORG AND USE THE RESOURCES AVAILABLE!!

It is our on-going pleasure to serve the Chiropractic Community in New Mexico and all those that support the work of Doctors of Chiropractic!!
Thank you for your support of the NMCA!!

With warm regard,
Jaeni Aarden, NMCA Executive Director
