California Chiropractic Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award

Dr Bob Dubin of the New MExico Chiropractic AssociationThe NMCA is very proud of our President, Dr. Bob Dubin, who was chosen by Dr. John Bueler, President of the California Chiropractic Association, to receive the Charles & Betty Adams Lifetime Achievement Award! Congratulations, Dr. Bob!! We couldn’t be more proud or more delighted than we are to have you in New Mexico and working with US now!

As many of you know, Dr. Dubin has been having some health issues over the last several months. In speaking to him this week, he is doing better and gaining strength!! Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers so that he can get back to work in the very near future!

Following is a message that Dr. Dubin asked be sent to you in place of his President’s Letter for this Journal. You can read a message from Dr. Michael Brown, NMCA VP, where the President’s Letter is usually found.

Dear Colleagues:

I have a short and to-the-point message for you at this time. Following are the things that I would like to stress in a strong and passionate way to all Doctors of Chiropractic:

Use the list serve;
#
Create community;
#
Open dialogue with newspapers, radio and TV stations;
#
Get out there and make chiropractic a thing people are talking about;
#
Don’t just sit and wait for it to implode around you because if we don’t do it, no one will;
#
Get involved and make things happen at the local level; and
#
Don’t be shy about what you do for a living, as it is the greatest profession around and people need to know about it!!

2007 NMCA Annual Convention
Thanks to all that attended & Thanks to all our exhibitors!!

The 2007 NMCA Annual Convention held at the Sandia Resort & Casino in Albuquerque was another great learning experience, fun experience and educational experience for the DCs in New Mexico. Our speakers, Dr. Nancy North, Dr. Louis Sportelli, Dr. James Mertz and Dr. Windy Carter were all wonderful and provided a great deal of useful, interesting and important information! We can’t thank them enough and hope they know how much we appreciated their time and effort on behalf of NM DCs and their staff. In addition, Gary Cuneo, Foundation 4 Chiropractic Progress, and Jim Gould, Fundraising Solutions, deserve great thanks for coming and talking to our group!! We appreciated your presence!

We had a GREAT group of exhibitors and, once again, would like to express our appreciation for their time and effort and presence during the weekend of the Convention! Remember that these companies support you in a really tangible way by attending our Convention! Let them know how much we appreciate them by supporting their businesses and using their products! We would love to have them all back again next year!

These are some people that work behind the scenes to make this weekend event a special time for everyone. I would like to express thanks and appreciation to the following:

• Dr. Jim Barber for arranging and running the golf event on Friday morning. I hear it was GREAT fun!!
• Dr. Mark Hoffert for handling the Hospitality Suite in every way!! I hear that was fun, too!!
• Dr. Ben Markham for the use and management of his AV equipment for every meeting and event, as he does EVERY year!!
• Dr. Michael Pendleton for all his work before, during and after every event for the entire weekend!!
• Helen Casey, Dr. Len and Mary Leu Anderson, and Belda Archuleta for helping to man the registration desk, filling “goodie” bags, and much, much more!!
• Peter Weh, Medical Specialists, and Dr. George Stribling for the loan of the adjusting table used by Dr. North in her presentations.

If I have forgotten to mention anyone, please know that everyone that helped with this event was valued and appreciated greatly!!

Getting Ready for the 2008 Legislative Session

Even though we are now between Legislative Sessions, the work has not stopped!! On June 2, in Santa Fe, we held our first Legislative Workshop. Linda Siegle, our Lobbyist, presented three-hours of instruction on the process involved in getting legislation passed. It was a GREAT event and everyone that attended expressed how much they had learned and how much they had not known about the intricacies involved! We have now scheduled two more Legislative Workshops, as follows: August 25, 2007, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. in Albuquerque at the Marriott Pyramid and September 8, 2007, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. in Las Cruces at the Hotel Encanto de Las Cruces. We hope that many more of you will attend these events and learn how you can help make the process of getting our legislation passed a GREAT success!

Linda Seigle of the New Mexico Chiropractic AssociationThe Health Care for New Mexican’s Committee has continued to meet regularly to gather enough information to prepare legislation for the 2008 Legislative Session that will provide insurance coverage for all New Mexicans. Our goal will, of course, be to see that Doctors of Chiropractic and chiropractic treatments are included in this legislation in as broad a manner as possible. Our Lobbyist, Linda Siegle, has been attending these meetings and has prepared a report for us on where this committee stands at the moment. (Click here to read Ms. Siegle’s report.)

NMCA’s Your Health Matters on KTBL 1050 AM ~~
In Its Fourth Month

The Radio Program, Your Health Matters, is now in its fourth month of airing on KTBL 1050 AM from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. every Saturday in the Albuquerque area. As you know, Dr. Bob Dubin, our President, was hosting and handling the arrangements for this program every week prior to his illness. Since then, Drs. Derek Atchley and Dan Prince have agreed to take over and continue to make this project a BIG success! And, that is just what they are doing! We have had some wonderful guests and the feedback has been extremely positive! Don’t forget to listen!

You can help this project succeed!! If you have something you would like to share with the listening audience or have a topic that you would like to have discussed by others or if you would simply like to be a guest on the program to share your knowledge of chiropractic, please contact Dr. Atchley at 505-265-5651 or Dr. Prince at 505-922-9444. The more information we can get out about chiropractic, the more people will become appropriately educated about your profession!! AND, this is a good thing! So, your help would be most appreciated!

NMCA Fall Seminar With Dr. Michael Taylor ~~
Chiropractic Nutrient Pharmacotherapy

The NMCA Fall Seminar, October 20-21, 2007, at the Marriott Pyramid in Albuquerque will present a course of 12 hours/CEUs by Dr. Michael Taylor entitled “Chiropractic Nutrient Pharmacotherapy.” This course will be the first of a series that will prepare DCs for the Advanced Practice Chiropractic licensure that, as many of you know, we are working to get through the Legislature. In addition, this course will provide you with information and skills that you can apply to your practice as soon as the weekend is complete!

Following are some of the things you will learn:

* Learn how to manage complex, chronic disease with natural remedies.
* Learn how to order and read lab tests to detect functional illness and nutritional deficits.
* Boost your clinical skills with nutritional protocols that you can apply immediately in your practice.
